Safe school incidents

The Limestone District School Board is committed to an equitable and inclusive school climate that ensures all students, staff and members of the broader school community feel safe, comfortable, and accepted.

Students, families, and staff are encouraged to report school safety incidents as soon as they happen. This includes incidents of bullying that is not related to a violation of a protected ground under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

How to report a safe school incident

Students, families, or staff should contact their teacher and/or school administrator or supervisor to provide them information about the situation. If someone does not feel comfortable reporting an incident in person, they may use the Report School Safety Incident form to report incidents.

Reportable incidents include:

  • Bullying/Cyberbullying: Bullying is an aggressive behaviour that is typically repeated over time. It is meant to cause harm, fear, or distress, or create a negative environment at school for another person. Bullying or cyberbullying occurs in a situation where there is a real or perceived power imbalance. Use this form to report bullying that is not related to a violation of a protected ground under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • School Safety: School safety issues are those which might result in a violent incident or environmental concern.

What happens after a safe school incident is reported?

  • Information provided will be forwarded to the appropriate school administrator or supervisor for action. Please provide as much detail as possible include dates and locations of incidents.
  • Incidents may also be reported anonymously. It is important to note that feedback and follow up cannot be provided to those reporting an incident if no contact information is provided.
  • In most circumstances, you can expect contact within 48 hours, excluding weekends o r holidays, provided you have provided contact information for follow up.
  • Reported incidents of school safety are tracked and monitored to ensure accountability and transparency. Individuals will not be identified where it would violate privacy or personal safety. Information is collected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), and the Education Act.
