LDSB Mental Health, Substance Use, and Addiction Strategy

The Mental Health, Substance Use, and Addiction Strategy is the result of an extensive consultation process. In addition to the Strategy, the board develops an annual Mental Health, Substance Use, and Addiction Action Plan, which outlines Limestone’s mental health and substance use initiatives for the year.

Caregiver Resources

Caregivers can obtain information on available service providers in the community through these and other sources:

  • South East Healthline online at southeasthealthline.ca or by calling 310-2222 (no area code required) 7 days a week
  • 2-1-1 via 211ontario.ca or by calling 2-1-1 from any phone

Become Involved in Your Community

If you are a parent or caregiver of a Limestone student and have an interest in supporting the development and implementation of the Mental Health, Substance Use, and Addiction Strategy, you may be a great fit for the LDSB Mental Health and Substance Use Leadership Committee.

If you are a parent or caregiver who has accessed Maltby Centre services with your child or youth, you may be a great fit for their Family Advisory Committee

Life Promotion and Suicide Prevention for Caregivers

Anyone can have suicidal thoughts. As a caregiver, being informed and prepared is essential. Caregivers can be a protective force for students by increasing factors that support good mental health and reducing those that negatively impact mental health.

The LDSB Suicide Response Protocol is a suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention protocol that is well-understood by staff. This protocol emphasizes the importance of upstream life promotion approaches and a vision for student well-being and flourishing. More information can be found on our Life Promotion and Suicide Prevention webpage.
